Shayne Ward released his first single 'That's My Goal' after winning the X Factor in December 2005. Each act in the final had recorded their own version, but only Shayne's was released as the winners single. It was available to download immediately after the final on Saturday, but the CD single was not for sale until Wednesday 21 December. It sold over 313,000 copies (including the downloads) on its first day of release and became fourth fastest selling single of all time. The single was the official Christmas number one and stayed in the charts until June 2006, selling over 1.3 million copies. He released his second single, a cover of Bryan Rice's 'No Promises' on 10 April 2006. It was another big hit, selling 200,000 copies in the UK and spending 16 weeks In the charts. It reached number two in the UK and number one in Ireland, where it was in the chart for 19 weeks. His self-titled debut album 'Shayne Ward' was released on 17 April 2006. It sold over 200,000 in its first week of release in the UK, taking it straight to number one in the album charts. Later on, the album was released worldwide and had major success across Asia, South Africa and Scandinavia. The album has now been certified platinum, having sold in excess of 500,000 copies in the UK and 750,000 worldwide. The third single 'Stand by Me', taken from his debut album, was released on 10 July 2006. It reached number 14 in the charts and sold 25,000 copies in the UK. Later on in the year it was reported that Shayne had developed vocal cord nodules and had been sent to see a specialist surgeon in Los Angeles. He was back working soon after when he released his autobiography 'My Story' in which thousands of fans turned up to the book signings held across the country. At the begining of 2007 Shayne went on his first live tour across Ireland and the UK, playing at eleven different venues. The 18 date 'Shayne Ward Live 2007' tour started on the 21 January at the Point Theatre in Dublin and lasted 28 days ending at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham on the 17 February. On 24 September 2007 he released the singles 'If That's OK with You' and 'No U Hang Up' together as a double A-side. They reached number two in the official UK charts but were released separately in Ireland with 'No U Hang Up' reaching number eleven and 'If That's OK with You' reaching number one. He released his second album 'Breathless' on 26 November 2007 saying it is "funky, sexy and different". The album has been a great success selling 96,000 in it's first week of release and reaching number 2 in the UK and number 1 in Ireland. 'Breathless' was also the name of the second single to be released from the album. He performed the world exclusive on the live results show of the fourth series of The X Factor. The single was released on 19 November 2007 and reached number 6 in the UK and number 2 in Ireland. After performing live to thousands of people and selling millions of records worldwide he will undoubtedly continue to have a bright future in music.
